Coincidentally, our agriculture minister came from the Rockefeller Foundation. America’s foreign policy has always been about maximizing its economic interests at all costs. That America shouldn’t be mistaken as a softer, a kinder, and a gentler empire — notwithstanding its display of internal freedom and democracy — wasn’t in doubt. And that was demonstrated by the speed with which it went about consolidating and maximizing control of global power upon taking it from Britain, as never seen since the time of Alexander the Great. The actions within its elite foreign policy circles demonstrated that. And this was clearly confirmed in a 1948 internal memo by George Kennan, US State Department Senior Planning Official, where he said, ”…we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction.”
Unified under Rockefeller’s vertically integrated global oil empire, it also quickly consolidated its food and agricultural empire. First it exported its fake Green Revolution, which went hand-in-hand with its agribusiness globalization under a centralized control by the Rockefeller-controlled private corporations. And like its global oil monopoly, absolute dominance of global food supply was needed to achieve full imperial control. Today, the history of genetic engineering and patenting of plants and other living organisms remains inseparable from the political history of the Rockefeller family.
Destroying developing countries’ food sufficiency became the starting point; otherwise it could have been difficult to force them to join the Rockefeller food empire. But where could this inevitable destruction start than from luring them into Rockefeller’s petrochemical fertilizer and pesticide driven Green Revolution? Expectedly, caught in this trap, came the devastation of their local agro-biodiversity thanks to the introduction of crop monoculture, which caused soil leeching and destroyed its vital nutrients; thanks to excessive pesticides, which besides killing off other plant and animal species, air, water, and land pollution, also distressed local farm economies; and most important, thanks to green revolution’s conversion of much these farmlands into industrial agricultural production, that ended up emptying the countryside of its valuable natural and human resources.
As planned, far from delivering the falsely promised gains in yields and greater incomes to farmers, expectedly, developing countries were turned into permanent food importers from major food exporters; with spiraling cycles of debt, hunger, and malnutrition accompanying. Besides being an important weapon to destroy whatever remained of developing countries’ local food economies, food aid became ”a sponge to absorb commodities” surpluses by the west. Little wonder, when the price of food was low, these agribusiness companies decided to sell their commodities through food aid programs. Whereas when the price became high, they preferred selling their grains on the international market. And when more people suffer from hunger, they send less food aid. Closely exploiting every food crisis in developing countries meant that every inward-looking effort was met with floods of food shipped and dumped at prices ridiculously far under cost of production.
From these explanations, it is understandable why rather than promoting efficiency, green revolution was a veiled effort to gain control over the food economies in targeted developing countries. And there was nowhere that was more devastating than in Africa, where according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, from a continent with trade surpluses in agricultural goods in billions of dollars annually as a result of green revolution, became a food begging continent with billions of dollars spent annually importing food.
But as devastating as green revolution could be, it was only setting the stage for the most destructive revolution — Rockefeller’s genetically engineered food revolution. With everything in place, including Ronald Reagan’s full support, the ferocious use of genetic engineering revolution to control the 21st century global food supply, took off in 1984. Following how subsequent US governments kept their doors wide open to the Rockefeller-led agribusiness companies, developing gene-manipulated products in such absence of regulatory system, was enough to trigger gold rush frenzy to developing GMO plants, livestock, as well as GMO animal drugs.
Unlike green revolution’s plant or animal hybrids, genetic engineering of plants are entirely from new genes and combinations of genes made in the laboratory, and by bypassing sexual reproduction entirely, they jump the natural species barriers. For this very reason, not only is the process not precise, controllable, and reliable, easily damaging and scrambling the host genome, makes the process also entirely unpredictable. But despite the dangers posed, and the serious warnings from respected research scientists that recombinant DNA (rDNA) research could result in viruses and toxins unintentionally created when new genes are being introduced into a plant’s cell, the US government opted for industry ”voluntarily” self-policing.
Could it be merely because GMO plants and foods seem to resemble conventional ones, that made the US government to declare that GMO plants and foods were ”substantially equivalent” to the ordinary plants of the same variety (such as ordinary corn, soybeans, rice, cotton)? But there’s no way such well informed government could unbelievably do so, ignoring the qualitative internal alterations that accompany genetically engineered plant. But what could be the reason for not requiring biochemical or toxological tests, and for not requiring regulatory measures in genetically engineered varieties?
It is one thing for a government to support long-term laboratory research through science grants. It’s quite another thing to open the market’s floodgates to untested, potentially cancer-causing foods to the world’s food chain. But that it was done in total disregard to the fact that genetically engineered plant and animal breeding differ from traditional methods in very important aspects, could be unbelievable. First, genes from one organism could be extracted and recombined with those of another using rDNA technology without either organism having to be of the same species. Second, removing the requirement for species reproductive compatibility, new genetic combinations could be produced in a highly accelerated way. That genetic engineering’s introduction of a foreign organism into a plant in an imprecise and unpredictable process could be real, but to be ignored could show an unconcerned government.
But what could have been the reason for these agribusiness firms to have their way, notwithstanding the overwhelming evidence of potential health damage to the population? In other words, what could have caused the US government to put the health of the entire world at countless risks, and done so against numerous warnings from scientists? The answer is simply because the very organization behind it all is the powerful Rockefeller Foundation. As an essential catalyst for the gene revolution of GMO-altered food crops and their proliferation worldwide, the US government has always acted in full support of the Rockefeller Foundation’s global food cartelization.
It’s for this same reason that Washington pushed for the Amstutz Plan at WTO, including imposing Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Right (TRIPS), which allowed its agribusiness multinationals to patent plant and other life forms for the first time. And to in demonstrating its complicity, Washington did the heard-of, joining hands with a local seed company, Delta & Pine Seed Company in a US patent number 5,723,765. It’s also for this same re
ason that Washington contradictorily argued that because genetically engineered foods are ”substantially equivalent” to their traditional varieties, they should not be regulated beyond their conventional varieties; and then, turned around to argue that the same ”substantially equivalent” plants and crops should be granted patent rights for being ”substantially transformed.”
But how could Washington argue that genetically modified products should not be labeled because they are ”substantially equivalent,” and then contradict the earlier argument by allow US agribusiness companies to claim exclusive patent rights on their genetically modified organisms or seeds, on the ground of introducing a foreign DNA into the genome of a plant, uniquely altered the plant? But on what moral grounds could the Rockefeller-controlled agribusiness claim patent rights, forgetting the Rockefeller Foundation’s claims for pursuing GMO revolution were simply to feed the hungry world? In other words, if the US could argue against regulating and labeling genetically engineered foods for the reason that they are not substantially different, what are justifications for demanding WTO to act as the policeman, enforcing TRIPS? How could shoppers going to local supermarket be assured, for example, that the beef or pork they’re buying is not GMO food?
Little wonder in their desperation to force their GMO seeds down the throats of the world’s population, especially in developing world, with persuasion, bribery, coercion, and illegal smuggling into countries, besides using WTO, the State Department and USAID have since joined hands with US agribusiness multinationals in going around intimidating governments and forcing poor farmers around the world to pay royalties. And justifying this America’s newest weapon of imperialism, Catherine Bertini, a protégé of the Rockefeller and formerly US Assistant Secretary of Agriculture, arrogantly said, ”Food is power! We use it to change behavior. Some may call that bribery. We do not apologize.”
Discovering how difficult to win the battle of enforcing their so-called patent rights, rights that should come with excessive royalties, the US Department of Agriculture has since joined hands with these patent paddlers to now arm them with the Terminator Seeds, seeds that are genetically modified to ”commit suicide” after each harvest season, automatically preventing farmers from saving and reusing the seeds for the next planting season. Another is the Traitor Seed technology, which having an inducible gene promoter which witches off the gene, farmers are not able to turn on the gene without getting the special chemical compound. Armed with these, US agribusiness multinational now wholly dictate terms to world farmers for their seed.
That Washington and Rockefeller have succeeded in conducting this genetically engineered agriculture and food imperialism couldn’t have been possible without having some agriculture scientists and agronomists from strategic developing countries trained and dispatched to their home countries to pursue Rockefeller’s food as a weapon of imperialism.
