My unsuspecting fellow Nigerians will soon read another epic long letter from Gen. Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo to President Muhammadu Buhari, the current President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He will elucidate in detail Buhari’s shortcomings and failures in his imminent epistle. His impending letter will also herald a new end of a sustained beginning in his grandstanding criticisms for his political expediency.
The good thing is that some of us know Obasanjo as a man who believes only in himself as Obasanjo. He usually writes his historic missive when apathy Nigerians are in deep political slumber. Obasanjo’s constant shuttling of Aso Rock is an expedition to renew what he knows how to do best. His recent visit was very instructive and un-palliative. President Muhammadu Buhari is also not oblivious of Baba Iyabo’s political gymnastics. Obasanjo’s friends of friends are his friends’ enemies or “frenemies”.
No sensible “change agent” had trust in Obasanjo’s political Greek gift in the last general election. This writer warned his social media friends and followers then that, they should beware of Obasanjo’s political hanky-panky. Obasanjo is a friend of friends you will not want to make as friend(s).
Obasanjo knows the political neophytes amongst the Nigeria populace. When the ovation is loudest, that is when Baba comes out of his cocoon and regales us with his grotesque political grandstanding and opportunism. These unsuspected neophytes among us constantly play into the hands of his political shenanigans. Obasanjo is an Ijapa Oko Yannibo (Tortoise, Yannibo’s suitor) who will prompt you to dance in his front at your own existential peril. Whenever Obasanjo saunters politically, he is calculative with alacrity. I have never been tempted to dance to his political drumbeats. Baba Iyabo is a microcosm and epitome of all that is wrong with the Nigerian state. A political conniver who sees politics as a do or die affair.
Those who know Obasanjo’s political anatomy will rather have dinner with him with a very long specially-made spoon; otherwise, you are dooming your own political future. President Jonathan, Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Late Chief Bola Ige, Late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, late MKO Abiola, Atiku Abubakar and other adversaries will bear this writer witness. If you unrepentantly cross Obasanjo’s lines or step on his toes, whether by commission or omission; you are damned to his dungeon of unforgivable lair. He is unforgiving and a profaned adversary to individuals like President Goodluck Jonathan, MKO Abiola, Atiku Abubarkar and other antagonists. Peruse through Obasanjo’s political black books, scattered in these books are his political adversaries, which he continues to ape with discontent.
This writer believes very strongly about the Nigerian state and its endowed wasteful resources. He is also an apostle of the country’s progress. An inquisitor and incurable optimist; an unapologetic citizen of Nigeria who believes in the Nigerian projects and supports fallible men and women; and incorruptible individuals who understand the problems of the Nigerian people.
Check Obasanjo’s antecedents; check his ignoble roles during June 12, 1993 presidential election, Obasanjo’s political calculation was that President Jonathan was going to lose massively in 2015 general election. His romance with clueless APC then was for political expediency. Obasanjo is a schemer and conniver. He was ruthless against Chief MKO Abiola on June12, 1993 presidential election. He was equally ruthless against Chief Obafemi Awolowo in 1979 general election. The results of that election laid the foundation for chronic corruption and graft in Nigeria. His connivance with evil-genius Ibrahim Babangida institutionalized bribery and corruption in Nigeria. Obasanjo almost paid the supreme price under the evil Abacha, but has the man learned any lesson? The answer is nauseating and grossly revealing and unquestionable. But Obasanjo providentially remains the luckiest Nigerian dead or alive!
Obasanjo supposedly epitomizes African political reconnaissance. He has been a circumstantial individual with great opportunities to influence and effect positive changes in Africa, but his story has been admixture of success and failure of leadership. Corruption soared to a prime requisite during his administration and he has been a friend to many African dictators. Africa is currently under siege with leadership problems. It has been underdeveloped by its leaders. The continent has been a menace to itself through its leaders. It will take providence and political mutation or revolution to change the current African political conundrums.
Leadership determines the directions of followership. Look at West Africa to East, North and Central Africa, it is the same “fetish” political leadership. It is hypothesis of hypocrisy, corruption Incorporation and political opportunism.
Obasanjo would have been a catalyst to African growth and development, but he remains a political reconnaissance and encumbrance, whose success is shaded or clouded with controversy, grandstanding, opportunism and political expediency. Inexplicably, unless Nigerians deconstruct Obasanjo’s roadmap to politics, he will remain the anathema in Nigerian politics for years to come. Who will explore and deconstruct Obasanjo’s complex political persona remains a mirage!
