KANO!!!
Hankalifa
In
1972, I was the Editor of New Era Magazine, which was located at No 26 Niger
Street, Kano.
My
editorial team went to interview Alhaji Ado Bayero, the respected Emir of Kano.
He insisted that I be present, so I went.
He
had just returned from Senegal, where he was serving as a Nigerian diplomat, to
serve as Emir.
When
I saw Lamido Sanusi’ picture in the Nigerian press, I said to myself, that is a
chip off the old block. Long may he reign!!!
I
still cherish the pictures and other artifacts, Emir Ado Bayero generously made
available to me, including “kudi mai”.
I
met a group of Senegalese diplomats, who had visited to pay homage to the Emir.
The Emir insisted that we all see them off to the Kano airport. The rare ride
Rolls Royce was comfortable.
I
learnt a lot about the Emirate system, the social culture of catering for the
underclass and this knowledge was expanded during my visits to other Emirs in
the North.

“Righteousness
exalts a nation.” Unrighteous attitudes breed contempt.
The
Christian/Muslim divide in Nigeria is the result of ignorance, partisanship and
narrow-mindedness. It a totally
uncalled for situation.
The
gains of the APC in Kano seem to have created a
political
sandstorm in Kano. The state is in a state of political maelstrom and colloquy.
The
AZATA/NEPU Party of thinking, honest, patriotic Nigerian men and women
congratulates, the indomitable nationalist, Chief Odigie as the new Chairman of
APC.
This
is the fruition of ideas canvassed at the Bradford Initiative Conference from
December 2-7, at the University of Bradford Law School and Bradford Hilton,
where Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Ogbeni Aregbesola presented blueprints for
rescuing Nigeria from the throes of neo-colonial manipulation and control
The
contest for power in Nigeria, has entered a new stage, which will test the
strength of the democratic institutions and processes. A fair political contest
must include the peoples’ social democratic and social justice concerns.
The
APC must collaborate with all parties, including the People’s Democratic Party.
After all, what we need is a robust democratic process and not the festering of
primitive political machinations, crudeness, hard attitudes and politically
destructive behaviour.
Kano
is a volatile political entity,
whose political pace
must
be carefully managed in the national
interest.
