Jungle Drums Welcome Pastor Adeboye To Madison Square Gardens!

by Dr. Wunmi Akintide

From the 15th to the 17th of June, 2005, an anointed man of God, General Overseer Enoch Adejare Adeboye of the World’s fastest growing Church, the Redeemed Christian Church of God will be taking the financial capital of the world by storm, so to speak when the Church holds its 9th annual Convention in North America, at the Mecca of all sporting events, the great Madison Square Garden of New York. Pastor Adeboye would be reenacting in the Big Apple, the same ritual made famous by the late Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah when jungle drums used to welcome him to London in the late 50s.

The Crusade promises to be an outpouring of miracles and breakthrough for all that are under one yoke or another, but who passionately believe in the Lord and what He can do to redeem the afflicted and the long suffering. If you have not already heard about the event, I am taking liberty of the all powerful Internet to inform you that the Almighty is using this anointed man of God to spread his gospel around the world in much the same way like Paul had done in the New Testament. The Convention in New York comes as a backdrop to the monthly crusade, the Holy Ghost Night held, once a month, at Redemption Camp at mile 46 on the Lagos-Ibadan Express in Nigeria. The Holy Ghost Night ministers to no less than three million worshippers all gathered at one venue to praise and glorify the Lord. It is one of the spectacular gatherings of Christians around the world, which is equally as organized as the Catholic gathering at the Basilica in Rome, when a new Pope is ordained or when an incumbent Pope makes his transition or during important Christian celebrations like Easter or Christmas. A quiet revolution in spiritual devotion and piety is taking place in Nigeria, with Pastor Adeboye leading the way. The Big Apple with her melting pot of cultures is being specially blessed this week to have a taste of God’s power, and to be assured there is no other God like Him, and that He alone rules the world.

Once upon a time, we only hear of white missionaries like the great Billy Graham of America, Benny Hinn, Oral Roberts, T.D. Jakes and the eloquent Robert Schuler of Crystal Cathedral, in California creating this kind momentum the world over. Now the good Lord is creating surprises and raising up preachers from the so-called third world to now preach the gospel in far away places. I see nothing more to prove the power and supremacy of the Lord, we serve, than what is happening in all around us today, and more importantly, in a country like Nigeria where men of God like Pastor Adeboye, Pastor Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, Pastor Olukoya of the Mountain of Fire and T.M. Joshua of the Synagogue Congregation, to mention a few, are now proving to all doubting Christians around the world, the unmistakable existence and supremacy of the Almighty God.

One of the self confessed atheists in Nigeria, the late Tai Solarin of Mayflower College at Ikenne used to forcefully argue before his transition, there was no God, and that Nigerians who claim or believe there is one, are nothing but fools. He often cited the defunct communist Soviet Union and China under Chairman Mao to prove that any nation does not need God to be great and successful. He therefore propounded a theory that he would rather serve Humanity than serve a God he has no control over. He completely forgot, however, that Humanity itself, is the direct creation of God, the maker and the creator of anything that is ever made in this world. Behind everything that exists including the air that we breath and the water that we drink is a maker or a manufacturer. The only one that is not made or created is God Himself, and that logic explains His supremacy above any other god or earthly power. It is gratifying to note, however, that late Tai Solarin did have a change of heart before he died, as he witnessed the old but Godless Soviet Union disintegrate and fall apart, in bits and pieces, because their foundation was on quick sand. It is an insane society that will argue that God does not exist. Period.

We live in America, the greatest and arguably the most powerful country in the Universe today. The beauty of this Nation is reflected in a simple statement proudly displayed on her Dollar Bills, “In God We Trust.” Nothing beats that, and yet America leads the whole world on most indicators of power including Nuclear Power and technological breakthrough, plus a new development in Regenerative Medicine and conquest of Space which have all become the envy of the whole world, as we speak. The supremacy of God transcends all human power because man is God’s creation to begin with .The American who manufactured the atomic bomb, for instance, is a human being like the rest of us. He was able to produce that bomb by relying and improving on previous studies and research done by other Americans and intellectuals around the world, to move the process forward. And so in that context, and to the extent that he did not do it all by himself, he has in the process, proved the supremacy of God who created him and the men whose work and research he has used or relied upon to complete his own research. There is really nothing new under the Sun. Some of the rocket science we do marvel about today have existed, as far back as the old testament. The rocket of Fire that was said in the Bible to have flown Elijah to Heaven could, for the sake of argument, be considered a proto type of the modern day rocket that has landed man on the Moon and is currently making its way to the Red Planet, as we speak, if you can accept that.

All powers including scientific, nuclear and even Black or Voodoo power all belong to God without any doubt. So are natural powers or natural disasters like the Tsunami, the Volcanoes and the Earthquakes and the Land slides we all witness in different parts of the world today. Since God creates the Oceans and the Lands and the forces within them that make such natural disasters possible, to begin with, one can reasonably argue, it is the same God that can fully explain such forces, and how and why they do occur.

By the same token, I ascribe to God both Black or Voodoo Power as we know it today. Black Power or black Medicine is a reality we all must acknowledge. The word “voodoo” was only coined or crafted to cast aspersion on the efficacy of Black power The only problem is that the whole concept or idea has been bastardized by proliferation of fake and phony native doctors just like you also have fake and phony pastors and preachers who are in business not to serve God, but to make money, and to mislead those who follow them. There are some native doctors that are sincere and genuine, and they too never fail to give the glory to God, at some point, in their divination, because they do recognize that God creates the various trees, the her

bs and roots that they use in producing their potions and medications and drugs. The good native doctors hardly ever use their power and potions to create havoc or hurt anyone. They, more often than not, use such powers to help others in distress or get them through some difficult times.

You will be surprised that all those handmade medications and potions operate on the same basic principle of cause and effect, like we find in scientific inventions. They are put together in the same way. The only difference is that one is more sophisticated and better refined, documented, preserved and researched than the other, but they all obey the same basic principle of immediacy and spontaneity in the way they are supposed to work. You will often hear some of the native doctors use the term “A je bi uno, a gba bi etu” meaning the medication or the potion, when applied, “will spark like the fire, and explode like the gun powder” in its overall efficacy and effectiveness.

The point I am making here is that the power and the supremacy of the Almighty God has been tested and proved by all that is happening around us. God is more frequently using men of God drawn from remote places like Africa and to perform miracles around the world. Starting from June 15th to June17th, the great City of New York will be playing host to Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye and the Redeemed Christian Church of God at the Madison Square Garden between West 33 and West 34 Street and between 7th and 8th Avenue. Power must change hands and miracles will be performed, in the name of God Almighty. The more than thirty parishes of the Church that are already established and operating in the New York area, will be coming to the Madison Square Garden in full force, to join hands and to pray for peace and progress of this nation and all who live within it, Our prayers would touch the hearts of all those who care to show up at the Convention or those who may watch the event through the satellite or television.

Make it a point of duty to be there and please come with as many of your American friends as you can bring with you. It is going to be three nights of Blessings and Deliverance galore. You will be glad you did. See you there and God Bless.

I think the author has done remarkable in covering GE and other preachers (TD Jakes is not white for the record) however as a Nigerian author the use of the term jungle drums is somewhat disappointing. It would be interesting to know where the author got such a term from it certainly would not have been from his mother land or any research he has done. The term jungle drum is actually quite offensive.

I think you only understand happenings in Lagos. What about other preachers such as Pastor Ayo I think you should have mentioned people outside Lagos. Who is Joshua Maybe you thought you were writing the article for former Lagosians now living abroad. Adeboye is not only known in Lagos but all over Ninja.I hope the crusade was a real hit

Why did you start well with this great article and end up watering it down with some irrelevant lines If you are writing on African traditional religion do and don't mess up good topics because I think there is no comparism.

The God we serve is all knowing God, my prayer is all things we do be to the glory of God and not to any mamon…. God bless every reader. Jungle drums? So, talking drums, bata, konga and other African drums are "jungle" to this writer?

Ordinarily, this a good article but as usual, Akintide messed it up a bit with his freshly-minted Americana mentality.

I'll suggest he read the article by Femi Olawole on this type of issue.

My Brother, are you a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God(RCCG)?

This PUBLIC RELATIONS PRESS RELEASE on the forthcoming RCCG Convention in New York is special oh!

To God be the glory for great things He has done in our lives for sending us Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, who is also my G.O and I was once a project secretary in his office in Lagos, before I got the blessings to return to TV production and I have not looked back, except to go and testify of what God is doing in my life.

Its a beautiful and wonderful Sunday in Nigeria.

Just keep our flag flying higher and higher in flying colours in America. God who Has lifted us higher, will not let us down.

EKENYERENGOZI MICHAEL CHIMA.

I quite agree with the writer on the subject matter, but, i disagree very much on you placing T.B (not T.M) Joshua of the Synagogue Church in Ikotun-Egbe, Lagos, Nigeria in the class of the Adeboyes, Oyedepos and Olukoyas.

This is not to tarnish anybody's image, but by their fruits ye shall know them.

Any good and serious pentecostal from naija will tell u that T.B Joshua is far from being reputed a man of God (forget all the "miracles" – magic).

Pls correct this. Thank you.

I am a Nigerian who just relocated abroad and I attend the redeemed christian church of God.
