Lagos state is the commercial nerve center of Nigeria and Africa. It has always been at vantage position with visionary managers of its affairs, though, these managers may not have fully achieved their laudable goals and objectives, but their transformational agenda and vision for Lagos state to many people are unquestionable and not debatable. As the saying goes in Latin: res ipsa loquitur. (“The facts speaks for itself”). The present administration of Governor Fashola to his predecessors, from Chief Obafemi Awolowo to Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, Mobolaji Johnson, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, Colonel Buba Marwa, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and a host of others, have all espoused their ingenuity to make Lagos a world destination for tourism and business opportunities. Its diversity, cosmopolitan and geographical expression are qualities that make Lagos the center of excellence and a unique state.
The continuation of this achievement under the leadership of Fashola certainly deserves the accolades and outstanding recognition to transform Lagos to a megacity. He can only do this when we all give him the necessary support and encouragement he needs.
Fashola’s enviable performance in Lagos state must have been the cynosure of all eyes as his government is being recognised by local and the international community amongst which is the Lo Spazio della Politica-a conglomeration of compendium Scholars and scientists based in Italy. Foshola was recognized amongst the LSDP Top 100 global thinkers of 2013 because he made Lagos state an African hub of innovation and collaborated with Harvard Kennedy School in the United States by launching the Lagos Innovations Advisory council. Another notable Nigerian in person of Adefunke Ekine (fellow Echidna global scholars, Nigeria) also made the list as she was also recognised for her outstanding experience of teaching and directing schools in Africa. Particularly, for the promotion of science among young female students.
The world is now a global village where every individual, organization, religion and government activities are under the close watch of the international community. Fashola’s political persona, vision, consistency and pragmatic approach to governance have placed him excellently among his contemporaries and other performing governors in Nigeria. Nigerians in the Diaspora are happy and encouraged for this laudable achievements and recognition of these Nigerians.
Fashola is a quintessential leader who do not hide under the yoke of religion, ethnicity and inconsequential issues in carrying out his constitutional duties for the good people of Lagos State. His political ideology clearly shows that he practices politics of inclusion rather than resentment.
It is also obvious that Fashola has insatiable dreams for Lagos State and Nigeria, and one can only wish for Nigeria that the likes of Fashola metamorphosed to the top to effect the changes we desperately yearn for, and rescue Nigeria from this impending doom hovering over its political clime.
To all Nigerians, there is nothing compare to dream because dream has infinite capacity to effect change, our slogan should henceforth be hope for change through education as change is not impossible but achievable. The only thing that is constant in life is change, and I believe change is coming to Nigeria. It’s high time we deconstructed our warped minds, vote wisely to elect good people and begin to rebuild Nigeria for future generation. And my humble advice to all Nigerian leaders is to remember that, history is very smart at judging your actions and inactions whether by commission or omission as you will either be placed positively or negatively in the political archives of Nigeria. Again, Kudos to our own Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola and amiable Adefunke Ekine.
