“He who comes into equity must come with clean hands” – Legal Maxim
Reading through Dr Abati’s long article in The Guardian edition of 13 March, 2016 titled: “In this same country…” one can infer that: Once upon a time, in this same country called Nigeria, Abati was a beautiful literati and goddess who defended and prostituted from the most corrupt and divisive regime in Nigeria. We thought Abati was going to use his numerous writings as tools to work for the common good while in government. Instead, he failed the people and kowtowed to politicians who have no modicum of shame and ruined his integrity in public discourse.
Once upon a time, in the same country… “the literati (Abati) and cultural workers, but the historical figures (like our own then Abati) who have made the biggest impression on them (we his then admirers) are the ones who ruined the nation with their acts of omission and commission”. ABATI is a wordmonger who uses words pretentiously and with disregard for meaning. He writes with consummate elegance; in a pungent but impure thought process. His prose, and the precision and magnificence with which he crafts his manuscripts are literally infatuating. A garrulous and heavy-headed man; a wordmonger who seems to play on the intelligence of those with thirst and intellectual starvation.
Once upon a time, in this same country, Dr Reuben Abati, to your tents O Israel! The guiding doctrine in Abati’s beautiful piece in the Guardian’s edition is the equitable maxim that “He who comes into equity must come with clean hands”. Why Abati did not espouse all these exposé in his article during Jonathan’s administration is best known to Abati himself. Preach not to me what you have failed to practice.
Once upon a time, Dr Abati was made the Goebbels of Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. He defended the indefensible government. Goebbels was the cagey information minister of Adolf Hitler. In the early stage of Hitler’s dictatorship, Goebbels sold Adolf Hitler’s heinous hidden agenda to the general public despite the fact that, the well-intended public knew the evil regime of Adolf Hitler. The result of Goebbels’ propaganda led to the extermination of millions of Jews at the concentration camps.
Once upon a time, in this same country, Nigeria is going through the same hell now because of the government of “stealing is not corruption”. Whereas in a factual sense of it, corruption is stealing. My nut mentor Dr Abati needs to offer redemptive public apology to assuage his aggrieved and disgruntled followers. Dr Abati is a man who sold his conscience for mere political porridge and for the ineffectual persona, a personality whose deceitful meekness almost sentenced Nigeria back to medieval age through chronic corruption.
We read Abati’s brilliant expositions that are buried by his self-induced fraternity with sociopath Nigerian politicians, we do not read his artificial personality. Each time we read Abati’s article now, we ignore and close our eyes to his currency; and to thoroughly enjoy his artistic talent in wordsmith but rebuke his antecedents in the last immediate ineffectual administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
